Placenta Products

Have you been considering what to do with your placenta once you deliver? One option is placental consumption in the form of encapsulation and tinctures. This practice dates back to 1500s China- they believe that the placenta is "full of life force" and considered a powerful medicine for the postpartum period. 

There is anecdotal evidence that placenta consumption is beneficial, but this organ contains hormones, vitamins, and minerals that promote healing. Some reported benefits of ingesting the placenta:

• reduce post­partum bleeding quickly
• encourage a quick and healthy milk supply
• balance hormones
• reduce stress levels
• reduce risk of baby blues and postnatal depression
• boost energy 
• improve the appearance of skin/hair/nails

Midwife Nicole has been performing placenta encapsulation services since she was a student midwife. She believes in the power of the placenta as a healing organ and wants to help promote health and wellness for new parents.

Encapsulation is performed using vegan capsules (no gelatin!) and dehydration. An average of 120 capsules are made, but total number is based on the size of placenta. 

Tinctures are made by soaking a small piece of raw placenta in 100 proof vodka for six weeks. After that time, the solution is filtered and placed into a vial with a dropper.

All services come with directions for use and an umbilical cord keepsake. This can be formed into baby's name (if short enough), a heart, or virtually any shape. 

Nicole will pick up the placenta soon after birth and return the finished product in time for your first postpartum visit, with the exception of tinctures. Due to the unpredictability of births and other life circumstances, she will always keep in touch with you if the delivery time will differ.
